“I was told…” – Rio Ferdinand reveals powerful 17-word message Casemiro sent to Ruben Amorim

Rio Ferdinand has revealed the powerful 17-word message that Casemiro sent to Ruben Amorim last season when he was struggling at Manchester United.

Casemiro has been one of Manchester United’s most important players this season, despite falling out of favour last term.

The Brazilian midfielder initially struggled after Ruben Amorim joined the club in 2024, but he battled his way back into the side and finished the season as one of United’s standout performers.

That form has carried into the current campaign, with the experienced midfielder again proving vital as United sit sixth in the Premier League table.

Amorim has repeatedly highlighted Casemiro’s resilience in earning his place back in the team. The Portuguese coach clearly values the fight and determination shown by the former Real Madrid star.

United legend Rio Ferdinand has regularly backed Casemiro even during his difficult moments at Old Trafford and he is happy to see him in form right now.

The ex-defender has also revealed a message that the Brazilian told Amorim when he was struggling last season and it speaks volumes about his character.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “One of the things that I was told when I was there the other day as well about him, which I wasn’t surprised about, but it’s telling for young players to listen to, is that he was subbed for a while in this team.

“And he said, ‘Just tell me what I need to do to get in the team, and I’ll do it’, and here we are now, and he’s one of the most integral players in the team again, after being told he should leave football. It’s just mind-boggling.

“It just shows you why you have to respect the likes of someone like him, who’s won four or five Champions Leagues and countless other trophies. To be quick to write someone like that off is just like, it’s mind-boggling because he’s not got to that position and won that much through being easily rolled over.

“He’s had trials and tribulations in his career up to that point anyway, and through his career. So to think he’s going to have another one here at Man United and just say, no, that’s me, I’m done. It’s crazy.”

Casemiro’s professionalism is not a surprise

Casemiro’s professionalism comes as little surprise. Raphaël Varane showed the same attitude when he was dropped by Erik ten Hag during his final season at Old Trafford.

Rather than sulk, Varane put in the work behind the scenes, earned his place back in the side, and went on to deliver a commanding performance in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City, where he kept Erling Haaland quiet.

Given the number of players in recent years who have lost motivation or checked out during difficult spells at United, it is striking that Casemiro and Varane responded so positively, especially considering they were arguably the two players with the least left to prove.

That mentality helps explain why both have enjoyed such decorated careers, and Casemiro will be determined to keep defying the doubters in what could prove to be his final season at Old Trafford.
