Manchester United summer target Geovany Quenda has detailed his star-struck moment when he met an Old Trafford hero.

When Ruben Amorim first joined Manchester United, speculation swirled about which players from his talented Sporting CP squad he might bring with him, with Viktor Gyökeres being the most talked-about name.

However, according to a new report from Portuguese outlet ABola, United have already secured a deal to sign 17-year-old winger Geovany Quenda from the Liga Portugal side this summer.

The report states that United’s interest in Quenda predates Amorim’s arrival, and while a deal couldn’t be finalised in the winter transfer window, the club is set to complete the signing in the summer.

It is claimed that the deal will cost United around £50 million, although report elsewhere suggest that the price could end up being slightly lower than that.

United’s struggles in front of goal have been a major concern this season. Their disappointing home form at Old Trafford has only intensified the need for attacking reinforcements.

Quenda recalls star-struck moment with Ronaldo

Quenda will not be the first player to make the move directly from Sporting to United, with current United captain Bruno Fernandes having the same transfer history.

But it is Cristiano Ronaldo who everyone thinks of when you mention the two clubs together. The legendary forward made his name at United after making the transfer from Sporting as a young and exciting talent.

Quenda was called up to the Portuguese national team in September last year and while he did not make his debut, the teenager managed to meet some of the stars within the camp.

That included Ronaldo, and Qeunda recalled the moment he fell star-struck in front of the United legend when he first met him in an elevator.

“He was going up and I was going down. When I rang the elevator, he was going up and he appeared,” said Quenda in an interview with Canal 11.

“I was a bit embarrassed, but that’s normal! I didn’t say anything. He’s an example for everyone, for all the kids who dream of being footballers.”

Amorim aiming to improve United’s wingback situation

United are set to secure the signing of Patrick Dorgu before the mid-season deadline and that helps solve the issues at left wingback for United.

Adding 17-year-old Quenda to the equation next summer completely changes things for United on the flanks.

While both players are quite inexperienced, their profiles are the exact right match to what Amorim wants from his wingbacks.

They have been the positions causing the United manager the most trouble during his time at Old Trafford so far but could end up being a strength for the team heading into next season.
