“I want to see…” – Ruben Amorim explains controversial Manchester United lineup decision for Chelsea clash

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has explained a controversial decision in his lineup to face Chelsea in the Premier League.

Everyone is eagerly looking forward to next Wednesday evening’s Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Before that, though, Ruben Amorim’s team must navigate a tough Premier League clash away to Chelsea on Friday night.

With five days until they play in Bilbao, a strong United side has been named for the Stamford Bridge clash as Amorim clearly wants momentum going into that game.

The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Harry Maguire have all been named in the starting lineup and many fans believe that it could be the same side which starts against Spurs.

Amorim explains strong United lineup vs Chelsea

The decision to go so strong in this game is controversial and could end up backfiring if any of the United players end up getting injuries.

However, Amorim believes that it is more important to see his team compete in a game ahead of that final, with players still needing to prove that they are ready to play in the final.

“We have five days to prepare the final. We are focused on this game. Sometimes the best way to prepare a final is to play, is to compete,” he told Sky Sports.

“And we have been experiencing some problems in that area. So I want to see the team compete. I need to understand my team to prepare the final in a better way.

“They need time to prove themselves, to be ready for the final. And we need to compete in the Premier League.”

Spurs have complete opposite approach to United

Tottenham, on the other hand, are going with the complete opposite approach, with almost all of their key players absent for their game against Aston Villa.

While neither approach is perfect, you could argue that the likes of Mikey van de Ven and Christian Romero going two whole weeks without any game-time is a bigger risk.

United’s key players would instead be heading to Bilbao with some sort of match rhythm as long as no injuries occur at Stamford Bridge.

Even though he has gone with this approach, Amorim is likely to take some of his most important players out of the game following the 60-minute mark.
