Bruno Fernandes has been issued a message by his fellow Portuguese teammate amid the possibility of him leaving Manchester United this summer, and the player has urged him to join Al Hilal.
The rumours surrounding Bruno Fernandes and his possible exit from Manchester United are beginning to become hard to ignore, and his fellow Portuguese teammate has added fuel to the fire by encouraging Bruno to join.
Negotiations are underway between Fernandes and Al Hilal, with his agent Miguel Ruben Pinho back in Manchester to have discussions with the club about his client possibly leaving. There remains a big chance United could be without their captain next season.
A fellow teammate of Fernandes at Portugal has come out and offered his support for the player possibly making the switch over to Saudi Arabia and following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has spent the last two seasons at Al Nassr.
The player in question left the Premier League for Saudi Arabia himself and can offer a fair enough depiction of what Bruno could expect if he does decide to leave United in the next week or so.
Ruben Neves urges Fernandes to join Al Hilal
Al Hilal star Ruben Neves has sent a message to Bruno Fernandes as negotiations between the player and Al Hilal continue, and he has made it clear that he believes the player should join the Saudi club this summer.
Speaking on international duty about the prospect of Fernandes leaving United and joining Al Hilal, Neves had the following to say: “I recommend all the players in the national team, of course. Fortunately, Portugal has produced a lot of talent and continues to do so.
“We are a lucky country in that respect. We are also very hard-working. A very small country, but one that has produced excellent players.
“Just yesterday we saw four of our players – Goncalo Ramos, Joao Neves, Nuno Mendes and Vitinha – lift the Champions League. It is an excellent sign for Portugal.
“I would like to have any player from the national team in my side.”
Fernandes is being offered a significant amount of money to make the switch, and Al Hilal are prepared to pay United whatever fee they want. It could be an offer the club can’t refuse, as it could kickstart a rebuild financially that may be beneficial to them down the line.
No final decision has been made yet, but according to Ben Jacobs, the Saudi side are growing in confidence that they will get this deal done in the coming weeks. They want Fernandes signed for the start of the Club World Cup.
United may not be able to refuse
Finances are key at United right now, and a £100m+ pure profit sale may be a fee they cannot refuse. Fernandes has been magnificent since signing for United, but the club may feel his transfer fee can go towards signing six or seven new players to push the side forward.
Ruben Amorim has been rumoured to be desperate for Bruno to stay, so a departure may cause internal conflict. The issue with his exit remains that United, recruitment-wise, have failed in years gone by, so there is no clear sign he will be adequately replaced.
If Fernandes leaves, United should automatically test Chelsea’s resolve for Cole Palmer. The Manchester-born attacker was a United fan growing up, and he may have some sort of desire to be the face of the team that gets the club back to the top.
Nonetheless, if Bruno is to depart, it will be a sad day in the history of Manchester United.
