“I really like him…” Ex-Man Utd star praises Ruben Amorim for signing “powerful” player as transfer agreement surfaces

Rúben Amorim has been praised for the capture of a “powerful” Manchester United signing as the full details of his transfer agreement surface.

Manchester United’s summer has begun with real urgency, as Rúben Amorim wastes no time in reshaping the squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelöf will depart when their contracts expire next month, while Amorim has reportedly told Alejandro Garnacho he is free to find a new club. Rasmus Højlund is also available for the right offer as United look to refresh their frontline.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia are all expected to leave, with the club hoping to raise over £100 million in sales to bolster Amorim’s transfer budget.

The new head coach is targeting upgrades across the pitch, with particular focus on adding creativity and control in attack and midfield. A key part of the rebuild will involve raising the squad’s physical profile to better cope with the demands of Premier League football.

Details of United’s transfer agreement with Cunha emerge

United are set to announce Matheus Cunha as the club’s maiden signing this summer, with the Wolverhampton Wanderers talisman set to join United in a £62.5 million transfer.

As per multiple reports, the 26-year-old is set to take on the No. 10 shirt for the coming 2025/26 season and will become the first-choice on the left of Amorim’s front three.

Reports state that Cunha is expected to earn around £200,000 a week at Old Trafford and will sign a five-year contract, with the Reds retaining the option to extend this by a further campaign should they wish.

According to The Athletic, United have asked Wolves if they can pay Cunha’s £62.5 million fee over five years. However, the Midlands outfit are expecting the fee to be paid across 24 months, as is stipulated in the release clause of his contract.

Amorim praised for signing “powerful” Cunha by ex-player

While there is some apprehension surrounding Cunha, given that he is signing for such a high fee for a less well-established Premier League side, Phil Jones, a former United defender, had nothing but positive things to say.

“Really good, I really like him,” Jones explained when discussing the impact Cunha could have at his former club.

“[Cunha] is a player who I’ve watched twice this season against Man United and done well in both games.

“He reminds me a little bit of Mousa Dembele, who played for Tottenham. That sort of player, he’s so strong when he’s running with the ball and powerful, but he’s got that ability to shift the ball, move the ball, find a pass, score a goal”.

“I really like him. I think he’d be a really good addition if the club were to bring him in.”
