Amad and Alejandro Garnacho have agreed on Manchester United’s stance on the Europa League final in what should be a stark warning for Tottenham.
Manchester United are gearing up for the Europa League final, where they’ll face Tottenham in Bilbao on Wednesday evening.
Rúben Amorim’s side have been out of sorts in the Premier League, going eight games without a win, but their form in Europe has been electric.
After finishing third in the group stage, United eased past Real Sociedad in the round of 16 with a 5-2 aggregate victory, highlighted by a second-leg hat-trick from Bruno Fernandes.
The quarter-finals brought chaos and excitement. A 2-2 draw in France against Lyon was followed by a wild second leg at Old Trafford, where United led 2-0, slipped to 4-2 down, and then roared back with quick goals from Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire to complete a stunning turnaround.
In the semi-finals, they were ruthless, beating Athletic Club 3-0 away and 4-1 at home. Now, they prepare for one final test against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham, with silverware on the line.
Amad and Garnacho agree on United’s stance for the final
Ahead of the fixture in Bilbao, United interviewed seven of Amorim’s first-team players about their thoughts surrounding the final.
There was one major theme throughout the interviews, with Amad and Alejandro Garnacho putting it best, as both players explained that, more than anything, the squad is excited to play the fixture.
“Yeah, I’m excited,” Amad told the club’s media. “I’m excited to play the final. Really, we are really focused, and everyone is excited to play the final. I’m honest.”
Garnacho issued a similar sentiment, saying he is very excited and that he “needs” to win the game and celebrate with the fans. “Very, very excited, you know, this week will be very, very long,” he said.
When further asked what he was most excited about, he replied, “About being there, just play the game. I don’t care if I score or not, just I need to win the game and then celebrate with the fans and the family.”
Tottenham must be wary of United’s excitement to play the final
While the squad have deserved criticism for a lack of intensity in some Premier League fixtures this season, there’s no questioning that Amorim’s men are fully focused on the Europa League final.
With the message from United’s squad being that they are a side who are excited to play a fixture that has so much baring on the club’s future, Tottenham must be wary of the fight United will put up despite being a side Postecoglou’s men have already beaten thrice this campaign.
With 19 goals scored across six knockout matches, Bruno Fernandes has led the charge with seven goals, while Casemiro found the net in both legs of the semi-final against Athletic Club – two dangermen that could be the difference makers on Wednesday evening.
As they prepare to face Tottenham, there’s a clear sense of purpose. United will step onto the pitch with one goal in mind – to bring the Europa League trophy back to Old Trafford and secure Champions League football for next season.
