“I need minutes…” – Man Utd star makes demand Ruben Amorim won’t give him at Old Trafford, exit makes sense for everyone

One Manchester United star has explained that he needs to get minutes on the pitch and that might not be possible under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are likely to be moving on several players in the summer transfer window as they look to make space in Ruben Amorim’s squad for signings.

It is quite clear that some players do not have a future in Amorim’s plans. Whether that be players sent on loan, like Jadon Sancho or Tyrell Malacia, or those still at Old Trafford.

Some players also have their contracts with the club expiring in the coming months and it seems unlikely that United bosses will negotiate renewals.

Victor Lindelöf is among that group, with the Swedish defender out of contract in June. He has been at the club since he signed in the summer of 2017.

Lindelöf makes demand Amorim won’t give him

Lindelöf, 30, raised some eyebrows this week when he claimed that he was “really comfortable” at United when asked about his future.

Even though Amorim plays with a back-three formation, there is little chance of the Swede making the team when everyone is fit.

He recently started against Fulham, Arsenal and Leicester City due to the unusual amount of injuries in United’s backline. But it has been claimed that Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are back in action soon.

This follows on from Lindelöf playing 90 minutes for Sweden in a 5-1 friendly win over Northern Ireland and claiming that he “needs minutes” going forward.

“It’s been a while. It felt good. It’s nice to play 90 minutes. I need minutes. We play with very high intensity in the national team so it’s fun to hold for 90 minutes,” he told reporters.

“It’s tough and a demanding way to play football. But we have to do that, too. It still felt like we solved it well, but it’s a little different sometimes to be so high up.”

Lindelöf’s United exit makes sense for everyone

Lindelöf wants to get minutes on the pitch but that simply isn’t going to be happening at Old Trafford under Amorim.

The 30-year-old is not going to be offered a contract and it makes sense for all parties involved for him to go and try to push for a starting spot elsewhere.

United do not need a player on such wages – reportedly around £120,000-per-week – as an emergency backup and that position can instead be occupied by a younger talent.

Meanwhile, Lindelöf can get what he needs elsewhere as he can certainly still be a starting centre-back for plenty of clubs across Europe.

Since he signed for the club under Jose Mourinho, Lindelöf has made 273 appearances for United. He has won the 2023 Carabao Cup and 2024 FA Cup with the Reds.
