Manchester United are looking to sign a striker in the summer transfer window to support the struggling Rasmus Højlund.

Manchester United have struggled in attack this season, finding goals hard to come by throughout the campaign.

Ruben Amorim will be pleased to see his team net seven times in their last two matches, and even more relieved that Rasmus Højlund has finally ended his goal drought.

The Danish striker had faced heavy criticism after going more than 20 games without scoring. In some matches, he barely had a chance, while in others, he squandered clear opportunities.

Major question marks have been placed on the 22-year-old due to his form, and reports state that the club want to sign a no.9 in the summer.

United’s four-man striker shortlist revealed

It has been reported by Sky Germany this week that United are already “intensively scouting” the market for strikers ahead of next season.

The report mentioned that talks have already begun with targets, and named four goalscorers the club have on their shortlist.

Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko were named as two players the club are “closely monitoring”.

Meanwhile, it was added that Viktor Gyökeres and Victor Osimhen remain high on United’s list of striker options to bolster the squad.

Despite the incoming strikers, it is very likely that Højlund remains at Old Trafford next season but his role is set to drastically change.

That may be for the better, with less pressure on his young shoulders. Højlund is aware that he is not the ready-made striker but feels he can get to a top level to help Amorim’s side.

“I think competition is a good thing,” he told reporters after the victory against Leicester City on the weekend.

“I know I’m not finished the article or what you say over here, but I just want to keep going and keep becoming even better and I’m sure I’ll get even better and score even more goals if I just focus on that.”

Højlund also believes that he can offer things to the team outside of goalscoring which Amorim wants from his lone-striker.

“He wants me to stretch the pitch. I think that’s quite obvious,” the striker added. “Get me into the channels and keep the centre-backs occupied.

“That’s what I’m trying to do. I think I got a good amount of speed and that’s what I’m here for.”
