“I know it…” Rio Ferdinand claims “ridiculous” star “wants to” join Manchester United this summer

Rio Ferdinand feels Manchester United are about to sign a “ridiculous” player for Rúben Amorim ahead of the 2025/26 season.

As Manchester United focus on the 2025 summer transfer window, Rúben Amorim is also considering how his current players will fit into his plans for the 2025/26 season.

Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford have already been identified as players who are no longer part of the club’s long-term vision, but others will be given a fresh opportunity to prove themselves.

Matheus Cunha has already joined the squad, and United are pushing to complete a deal for Bryan Mbeumo in the coming weeks, with Amorim keen to add more Premier League experience.

The club are targeting a midfielder and a striker before pre-season kicks off next month, though moves for a defender and a goalkeeper remain on the table, depending on player departures.

Ferdinand praises United’s pursuit of Mbeumo

With Cunha through the door, United aim to continue adding attacking firepower to Amorim’s front line, and signing Mbeumo would be a major coup, considering the other projects he had on offer following his fine season with Brentford.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand has sung the praises of the Cameroon international, explaining that the player “wants” to join Amorim at Old Trafford.

“Mbeumo wants to come, I know it,” he said, speaking on his podcast Rio Ferdinand Presents.

“His stats over the last three seasons in the Premier League are up there, by the way. Goals and assists, goal chances, ridiculous. Again, another proven Premier League player.

“This is what I like, [playing] in the Premier League. There isn’t no adjustment business. The only thing there will be [is an] adjustment because of the size of the club.

“They don’t have to do that when they go to Arsenal. There isn’t that pressure, the badge isn’t as heavy. It’s heavy, but it’s not as heavy.”

Mbeumo is just another piece of the puzzle

While Mbeumo’s potential arrival at Old Trafford would be a significant signing under Amorim, it is important to note that he is just another part of a larger puzzle.

In other windows, signings such as Cunha or Mbeumo would be the blockbuster that other players supplement. Still, considering United’s dire form, they are attempting to recruit multiple players who could completely change the club’s fortunes.

For the most part, United’s defensive options are solid, while the club may only need one new midfielder to compensate for the departure of Christian Eriksen.

However, it is the front line that needs major surgery, and bringing in both Cunha and Mbeumo would be two pieces that provide major upgrades to United’s attacking abilities.

The club are also in need of a new striker, but after Liam Delap opted to join Chelsea, there seems to be a level of uncertainty regarding who the club desire for the centre-forward position.
