“I hear…” Gary Neville reveals how Man Utd squad have ‘always felt’ about Rúben Amorim amid Brighton victory

Gary Neville has opened up on Sky Sports podcast about how the Manchester United team truly feel about Rúben Amorim’s leadership.

This weekend saw Manchester United gain their third consecutive Premier League win, with a 4-2 victory over Brighton on Saturday.

Now reaching 6th in the league table, many people have changed their tune regarding Rúben Amorim’s leadership of the club.

After United’s Carabao Cup hopes were embarrassingly put to bed in late August following their elimination from League 2 side Grimsby Town, people were unsure how Amorim could remain at the club.

However, the cogs have finally started to turn for United’s head coach, with their fateful start to the league now being rewritten, with hopes for the team to continue this winning streak.

Gary Neville speaks about the perception of Amorim.

Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, via The Standard, Gary Neville revealed he is excited by what lies ahead for United, and has revealed what he has heard behind the scenes about the manager and his squad.”

Although the ex-United defender seems in good spirits about this shift in the club’s narrative, he did remind everyone that, “we’re only a week or so away from when I was thinking the manager was under pressure by the way we’ve got to be really careful here.” Still aware that, in true Manchester United fashion, this winning streak can be short-lived.

Despite this, the 85-capped England international seems never to have been in doubt under Amorim’s management of the players.

He stated, “And hear this: a few weeks ago, I was worried about the players buying into the system and the way of playing”, but countered his point, showing his full trust in the Portuguese manager, expressing that he was “never worried about [Amorim] losing the changing room.” Spotlighting that the squad have never doubted Amorim as a coach despite the deep water they were continuing to find themselves in.

Dressing room morale is high

The fact that United hadn’t won back-to-back games since Amorim took over in November last year was clearly weighing heavily on the minds of everyone in the dressing room, with Luke Shaw revealing that the squad had been talking about their consistency, or lack thereof.

With that pressure off their shoulders, they could then look to build some momentum, and with all the players and manager seemingly pulling in the same direction —something that, at times in the past, didn’t look like it was the case —the future looks bright for this United squad.

Neville compounded this statement about the harmony in the squad, saying: “The players really like him, they like him a lot … The players really like him and want to do well for him, and I think that’s come through in the last week or so.

“It’s been a really good week for United, Amorim’s best week in the job, his most important week in the job … it’s been a big, big, big period for Amorim. He’s got himself back on track. People are now just starting to think ‘Okay, something could happen here for him.”
