“I can tell you…” Fabrizio Romano reveals Marcus Rashford’s clear stance on Manchester United return after Barcelona loan

Marcus Rashford has made his stance clear about a return to Manchester United after his loan move at Barcelona comes to an end.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan during the summer.

After joining Premier League side Aston Villa on loan in the January transfer window, the summer window presented the forward with a chance for an actual chance for a new start, away from the pressure of the English media that had been scrutinising him.

While Rúben Amorim’s start to the season has been mixed, Rashford has enjoyed a successful start to life in Barcelona, scoring three and setting up five goals across 10 LaLiga and Champions League fixtures.

It was clear to see that the 27-year-old was no longer in Amorim’s plans despite the loan deal not including an obligation to buy, but an option to buy for £26 million. This was further compounded by new signing Matheus Cunha inheriting the number 10 shirt that Rashford had worn since 2018.

Rashford has no intention of returning to Old Trafford

Rashford had been pushing for a move to Barcelona since the January transfer window, when he joined Aston Villa, but a move failed to happen due to Ansu Fati refusing to leave the club.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano spoke on Rashford’s future when his loan deal comes to an end next summer, and his start to life at Barcelona

He said: “For Marcus Rashford, there’s no obligation to buy, it’s a loan with a buy option for €30 million. This is the fee in case Barcelona decide to sign Rashford in the summer of 2026.

“So Rashford is doing very well, a very good impact, and it’s still the beginning. It’s just two months into his new chapter at Barcelona. So Rashford is very happy with the situation. I can tell you that Rashford is very happy with the city, with the league, with the club, with the manager, and with the teammates.

“Rashford loves his new life at Barcelona. And so Rashford is fully focused on Barca, not even thinking about the Manchester United return from the loan and maybe make it again at United one day. The full focus is on Barcelona.”

Barcelona move make or break for Rashford

Amorim famously criticised Rashford’s performances in training, saying that was the main reason why he wasn’t used by United’s head coach, and ultimately loaned him to Aston Villa in January.

Romano spoke on the club’s internal feeling towards Rashford, saying: “I can tell you that the feeling internally at Barca is very positive with the behaviour of Marcus Rashford. Not just with the performances. The numbers are very good, but also how he’s behaving.

“Very serious, very professional, training very hard. Barca people in the technical staff in management can see how Marcus Rashford really wants to succeed at Barcelona, wants to help at Barcelona. So they’re very happy with each other.”

While it’s clear that Rashford wants to succeed at Barcelona, the feeling among many was that he had to succeed if he was to get his career back on track after the fallout with his boyhood club.

If he couldn’t perform away from the scrutiny of the English media, then it was thought he couldn’t perform at the top level anywhere. He has proven a lot of people wrong, and if these performances continue, then he will most certainly have played his way into the England squad ahead of the World Cup next summer.
