“Huge factor…” – Rio Ferdinand names the biggest Matheus Cunha positive after Manchester United announcement

Rio Ferdinand has named the biggest positive of Matheus Cunha after Manchester United announced the signing of the Brazilian forward on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves on a five-year contract worth £62.5 million, subject to visa approval and registration.

The Brazilian forward becomes the first acquisition of the summer under Ruben Amorim, marking an important early move to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.

Cunha is seen as a crucial reinforcement for United’s misfiring attack, which has lacked sharpness for some time. At 26, he is expected to bring much-needed quality and energy to the front line.

The transfer fee will be paid in three instalments, starting with an initial payment of £20.8 million once the deal is finalised, with the remaining balance to be settled over the next 12 months.

United supporters are extremely happy with this signing and are hoping to see more of the same from the club as they look to strengthen the squad even more.

One of the main attractions of Cunha is that he is proven in the Premier League and that is something which club legend Rio Ferdinand believes is a ‘huge factor’ in the move.

Ferdinand suggests that there will be no need for an ‘adaption’ period for the 26-year-old, who is the ‘perfect’ profile of player for Amorim.

“We’ve taken Wolves’ top goalscorer this season, he’s got 16 goals to his name in all competitions. He’s one of the players when I mentioned a few weeks ago if I had a shopping list, he’d be on there,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.

“He knows the Premier League so he doesn’t need no adaptation time – this is a huge factor I think. If you’re going to buy players from foreign leagues and players that don’t have the experience in the Premier League then it’s always a risk.

“But he has the experience here, we’ve seen him here, he grew up a Manchester United fan and I’m hearing he’s taking the no.10 shirt.

“I think he fits the Ruben Amorim player profile perfectly – he’s quick, he’s dynamic, he’s aggressive, he can drop deep and receive the ball, he can pass and he can threaten the opponents with a goal. Amorim has been crying out for this in his squad.”

United know what Cunha will offer

United have not signed many Premier League players in recent years. Mason Mount was the last high-profile addition from within the division but his injury issues were present during his final year at Chelsea.

Cunha, on the other hand, is coming to Old Trafford after his best season in the Premier League and suits the system at United perfectly.

There have been many deals United have made previously where there isn’t confidence that players will hit the ground running. Cunha might be the first in a while where it feels like you know exactly what you’re getting.

But even with that, United fans are still extremely aware that one good signing is not going to change much at the club and are awaiting for the club to bring more players in, with a striker being the most in-demand addition.
