Manchester United face a crucial Europa League showdown against Real Sociedad this week, with their season hanging in the balance.

On Sunday, Manchester United suffered a heartbreaking FA Cup exit, losing to Fulham on penalties in the fifth round after missed spot-kicks from Victor Lindelöf and Joshua Zirkzee.

Ruben Amorim’s side sit 14th in the Premier League, far from European qualification, making the Europa League their only realistic chance at silverware and a pathway to the Champions League.

A tough round-of-16 challenge awaits against Real Sociedad, with the first leg set for Thursday in Spain before the return fixture at Old Trafford next week.

All of the details you need to follow along with the clash this week can be read below.

Real Sociedad vs Man Utd: Date, kick-off time and venue

United will travel to Spain for the opening leg on Thursday, 6 March and will be playing at the Reale Arena, which holds around 40,000 supporters.

For this clash, Amorim’s men will be playing at the earlier kick-off time of 17:45 GMT – they played all but one of their league phase fixtures in the 20:00 GMT slot.

Real Sociedad vs Man Utd: Latest team news

United fans are awaiting an update on Harry Maguire, who came off injured against Fulham Patrick Dorgu will be available as his suspension only applies for domestic competition.

Chido Obi will not be travelling with the squad as the 17-year-old was not included in United’s squad list for the remaining Europa League fixtures.

Amorim is set to provide updates on the likes of Mason Mount and Luke Shaw on Wednesday in his press conference but it would be a surprise to see any players back from injury for this game.

Meanwhile, Sociedad are reportedly sweating on the fitness of midfield star Martín Zubimendi, who is wrapped in cotton wool for this game after coming off injured against Barcelona.

Luka Sucic is unavailable for both legs of the tie after the midfielder suffered a knee injury late last month.
