How Sheikh Jassim could kickstart Man United’s transfer window following positive Qatari takeover report
Manchester United’s takeover saga between Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is entering its final stage with the summer transfer window days away from opening.
Various reports have stated that the winning bid will be known in the coming days and the latest developments come through an update from Qatar.
Qatari outlet Al-Watan reported that Sheikh Jassim has been successful in his bid to purchase the English club.
Meanwhile, Zaid Al-Hamdan, Vice Chairman of the Canadian Qatari Business Council and Chairman of Armasite Group, has sent a public message of congratulations to Sheikh Jassim on his ‘acquisition’ of the club. The potential United owner’s brother follows Al-Hamdan on social media.
The summer transfer window opens on 15 June and reliable reports from Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail explained that the need to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s squad in the coming months played a ‘major role’ in Sheikh Jassim’s latest bid, which seems to have given him a much better chance to take over.
If he is successful in purchasing the club, Sheikh Jassim would provide the opportunity for United to take action upon their targets after identifying names over the last weeks.
Various reports for different potential signings have all mentioned one common factor in each deal; the takeover process. Once new owners are in, United will be able to act on the likes of Kim Min-jae, Mason Mount and others.
Crucially, acting quickly could mean that United have several signings in the door before they head out on their pre-season tour, allowing new additions to adjust to the club, team and manager before the season starts.
These actions would fall closely in line with recent reports from The Athletic, who suggested that the plan from the club is to sign two players early in the window so that they can travel with the squad to the United States – with one of them being Chelsea midfielder Mount.
United have six friendly fixtures lined up against Leeds, Lyon, Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
