Manchester United could still earn extra cash from Antony even though he has been sold to Spanish outfit Real Betis.
When Erik ten Hag signed Antony for Manchester United in 2022, the winger was expected to provide a long-term solution on the right flank, with Jadon Sancho preferring to operate on the left.
Antony made a bright start, scoring on his debut against Arsenal, but consistency soon became an issue and standout performances proved rare.
In the second half of last season, Ruben Amorim sanctioned a loan move to Real Betis, where the Brazilian impressed and regained the form that had earned him his transfer from Ajax.
On Deadline Day, Antony completed a permanent move back to Betis, with the Spanish club paying around £21 million for the winger.
How much United could earn from Antony future sale
United were looking for over £30 million for Antony when the summer window opened, and it seemed realistic after his stellar loan spell.
While the £21 million fee they actually received for the Brazilian seems underwhelming, United did include a 50 per cent sell-on clause in the contract. That would be of any profit Betis make on the winger.
It has since been reported by ElDesmarque that Antony’s release clause at the Seville side is between £43 million and £52 million, depending on when teams come in and try to sign him.
If a club were to sign Antony for £43 million, United would receive around £11.5 million. Whereas if he was sold for £52 million, the Reds would pocket £15.5 million.
In the end, it seems like United could eventually receive the amount they were initially searching for with Antony, but a move away from Betis and someone paying his release clause would rely on him continuing to perform in Spain.
United moving in right direction
United were never going to become incredible at selling within the blink of an eye, and it was always going to be the big issue in the summer window.
But the Reds did manage to get most of their desired outgoings complete, even if some were only on loans. Rasmus Højlund’s move to Napoli could turn permanent based on certain conditions.

Barcelona may also sign Marcus Rashford next year, and those two deals would bring in another £50 million or so for United.
Looking at how Chelsea or Manchester City handle departures shows that there’s still a lot to improve in that department, but it seems like United are at least moving in the right direction.
