Manchester United have opened talks with the representatives of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martínez ahead of a potential move this summer.
Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for a new goalkeeper this summer, as Ruben Amorim continues his efforts to reshape the core of his squad at Old Trafford.
With Matheus Cunha already signed and growing optimism surrounding a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Amorim is also looking to strengthen both midfield and attacking areas.
At the same time, uncertainty lingers over the future of André Onana. The 29-year-old has displayed moments of brilliance during his two seasons with United, but inconsistency has raised doubts about his long-term role.
In the meantime, it has recently been revealed that Aston Villa goalkeeper and two-time Yashin Trophy winner Emi Martínez is open to moving to Old Trafford.
United talks with Martínez underway
Martínez, 32, has become one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in Europe over recent years, partly due to his heroics for Argentina to win the World Cup.
It has now been reported that the shot-stopper has given the green light for a transfer to United even though they are not in any European competition next term.
That’s according to the latest information from Fabrizio Romano, who also stated that Martínez is prepared to shelve all other offers he receives to wait and see if the Reds can offload Onana.
Importantly, it was also added that talks between United and the player’s representatives are underway, with initial contact between the two parties.
How much Martínez earns at Villa
Martínez’s reputation in recent years also earned him a bumper five-year contract at Villa Park back in August 2024, which leaves him with five remaining years on his current deal.
Villa still aren’t in the best bargaining position due to their PSR position but it does mean that the goalkeeper has relatively attractive wages.

According to Capology, the Argentine goalkeeper earns £150,000-per-week, which is the joint-highest within Unai Emery’s squad at £7,800,000 each year.
You can only imagine that he’d want an increase on that amount if he arrived at Old Trafford, but those at United would probably not be able to offer him much more than he’s already on.
