How Manchester United can exploit Chelsea’s ‘weak link’ in their Premier League clash

Manchester United can exploit Chelsea’s ‘weak link’ in their Premier League clash this weekend, and UtdDistrict analysed just how.

Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils are in desperate need of a positive result, and they face yet another tough task this weekend as they host Chelsea in the fifth weekend of the new Premier League season.

Manchester United have endured a difficult start to their campaign, having won only one game across all competitions, which was a 3-2 win at home to Burnley thanks to a 97th-minute Bruno Fernandes spot kick.

With Amorim’s side currently sitting in 14th, pressure has started to build upon the Portuguese manager’s shoulders, meaning that this weekend could be very crucial.

Despite facing tough opposition in Enzo Maresca’s Blues, it is definitely a fixture in which United can put some points on the board, as long as they exploit Chelsea’s ‘weak link’.

Chelsea’s weak link after Bayern defeat

During the first week of the new Champions League campaign, Chelsea travelled to Munich to face Bayern Munich, where individual errors saw them fall to a 3-1 defeat.

This loss led to mass criticism regarding the London side’s defensive unit, with pundits Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves both banging the drum for Chelsea to replace what OneFootball describes as their ‘weak link’.

Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor also gave his input on the situation, saying, “I look at [Trevoh] Chalobah and Tosin [Adarabioyo]. I think they’re very good defenders, but they’re going to get you top four season after season. They are not going to win you a Premier League. They are not going to win you a Champions League.

“When they played a proper team – Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise, Luiz Diaz and Harry Kane making runs in behind them – they couldn’t handle it last night.”

United firepower to expose Chelsea

As we saw on Wednesday, Chelsea are vulnerable when they face top-quality attacking stars, such as those of the Bavarian giants.

United spent over £200million on new attackers in the summer, who haven’t yet clicked alongside each other. This fixture could give them the perfect opportunity to gel.

Although it is unknown as to how involved Matheus Cunha will be against Chelsea, the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko will be desperate to get amongst the goals, as they have only one between them since their arrivals in Manchester.

This fixture on Saturday is set up to be an enthralling, high-stakes affair between two managers desperate for a result. One is hoping to turn his tenure around, whilst the other is hoping to bounce back from a midweek defeat.
