Marcus Rashford will be unavailable for Manchester United in their tough away clash against rivals Liverpool this weekend.

It has been almost a month since Marcus Rashford last appeared for Manchester United when he played in the Europa League against Viktoria Plzen on 12 December.

The 27-year-old was left out of four consecutive matchday squads under Ruben Amorim last month after admitting that he was open for a ‘new challenge’ in an interview.

Amorim reinstated Rashford to the squad against Newcastle United last week but decided against bringing him off the bench during the 2-0 defeat.

Rashford ill for Liverpool vs United

“I’ve already spoken a lot about Marcus [Rashford] but it depends more from him than from me,” Amorim told Sky Sports this week. “He has to want it really bad. He’s here, he’s our player and he’s ready to play if I decide.”

However, it looks like the player will have to wait a little longer before he gets a chance to return to the pitch for United.

Amorim suggested in his pre-Liverpool press conference that the club’s no.10 will be unavailable for the away clash at Anfield this weekend due to illness.

“At the moment he is ill,” said Amorim. “He is not training and this week he is out.”

How United teammates have reacted to Rashford’s exclusion

Despite being out of the team for a while now, Rashford remains the team’s joint-top goalscorer in the Premier League.

In fact, he has actually only started twice for Amorim in league football, bagging three goals in those games.

Since he has been missing from the squad, United have scored just once in four Premier League outings.

According to a new report from MailSport, United’s players are said to be ‘surprised’ at Rashford’s exclusion in recent weeks.

That outlet also claimed that the 27-year-old is waiting for a recall and will give 100 per cent to the team despite uncertainty over his future.

The report concluded that Rashford is still open to staying at Old Trafford despite his prior comments, which comes after he rejected several offers from Saudi Arabia to become one of the best-paid players in the world.
