“How he started off…” Manchester United star set to explode next season after Noussair Mazraoui’s praise

One of Rúben Amorim’s brightest stars is set to explode at Manchester United next season after praise from Noussair Mazraoui.

As Manchester United work through the summer transfer window, Rúben Amorim is turning his attention to preparations for the new Premier League season.

Pre-season begins in mid-July, with five fixtures on the calendar. The first sees United travel to Sweden to face old rivals Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena.

They’ll then fly to the United States for matches against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton, before returning to Old Trafford to take on Fiorentina—now featuring former United goalkeeper David de Gea—in their final pre-season outing.

The Premier League have confirmed that United will kick off their 2025/26 campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday, 17 August, with a 16:30 BST kick-off.

Amorim will have a much more settled squad next season

Much like the results from last season, there was significant inconsistency and turbulence within the team, as well as on the pitch, due to the drastic change in system and formation.

When Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag, he switched the squad from a 4-3-3 formation to a 3-4-3, with many players having new roles.

While some settled into their new positions quickly, with Amad, Noussair Mazraoui, and Bruno Fernandes thriving, others took longer to grasp their roles, resulting in inconsistent performances.

However, with a six-month bedding-in process having been undergone and the club set to embark on a full six-week pre-season training course, Amorim will have plenty of time with his squad to adjust their current faults and set them up for a much more consistent campaign.

Yoro set to explode under Amorim

Another player who was able to quickly settle in and excel in their respective role was 19-year-old Leny Yoro, who thrived as both a right and left-sided centre-back within Amorim’s back three.

Mazraoui was quick to comment on Yoro’s improvement over the course of the season, explaining in April that Yoro was a fantastic example of a player who had quickly improved after initial training sessions under Amorim.

“Yes, I think a big example of that is Leny. How he started off as this left centre-back and how he is doing now,” Mazraoui said.

“He has really improved. The way he is taking the ball, he is carrying the ball a lot more, it’s a little bit where we want to go and end eventually.”

Last summer, Yoro was unable to complete a pre-season with his new team, as he quickly suffered a foot injury while on tour in the United States and was unable to return to duties until the beginning of December.

However, with the French starlet working to keep fit alongside Kobbie Mainoo this summer and raring to go for his first full pre-season with United, he will be able to complete his first full pre-season with the club, which will put him in fantastic stead to hit the ground running next campaign and establish himself as one of the brightest centre-back talents across Europe.
