“His last 15 goals conceded…” – Ex-Premier League goalkeeper gives Senne Lammens advice amid worrying trend

Ex-Premier League goalkeeper David James has given Manchester United shot-stopper Senne Lammens advice after he spotted a worrying trend.

Senne Lammens’ £18 million deadline-day move to Manchester United during the 2025 summer transfer window initially flew under the radar.

The 23-year-old arrived from Royal Antwerp to join Ruben Amorim’s squad, but throughout September, Altay Bayındır retained his place as United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

That changed in October when the Belgian was handed his debut in a 2-0 victory over Sunderland, where he kept the club’s first clean sheet of the season. Since then, Lammens has featured against Liverpool and Brighton, winning all three of his opening appearances.

Interestingly, things could have turned out very differently. United explored moves for several other goalkeepers in the final hours of the window before ultimately deciding to bring in Lammens.

Ex-Premier League goalkeeper gives Lammens advice

While things are looking good for Lammens so far, no one is under the impression that he is the finished product. The young ‘keeper will need to keep improving.

Former Premier League shot-stopper David James has explained one worrying trend that he thinks Lammens needs to improve on after analysing some of the recent goals he has conceded.

“I did a little study on him before he played for United, and I think in his last 15 goals conceded, he’d only dived once,” James explained when speaking to AskGamblers

“Now, in itself, that might not be a problem because any goal could not be a fault of his in which he needed to dive, but it happened again [against Liverpool].

“I know the cross came through a player’s leg, but weirdly, this happens more often with him than I’ve seen with any other goalkeeper. So there are bits that he’ll have to improve on.”

Lammens won’t let praise go to his head

Lammens will need to improve many areas of his game but United fans are already very happy with his contribution so far. Chants in the Stretford End have compared him to club legend Peter x

But the Belgian goalkeeper will not let praise go to his head and he is aware that he needs to continue proving himself to last at United.

“That’s England for you. If things go badly, they can bury you deep, but if things go well, they praise you to the skies,” he said in a recent interview when discussing those chants.

“I take that with a grain of salt, because to be mentioned in the same sentence as Schmeichel, I’m going to have to prove myself many more times. But I did find it a very nice compliment.

“I hope to play here for 10 years and be important, so that, like Schmeichel and Van der Sar, I can leave a legacy.”
