“Hidden gem…” – Fabrizio Romano reveals why Manchester United are ‘very happy’ about upcoming transfer

Fabrizio Romano has explained exactly why Manchester United are ‘very happy’ about a transfer they are going to make official soon.

Since Michael Carrick retired in 2018, many feel that Manchester United have lacked a dependable presence in central midfield.

Despite their talent and experience, players like Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Casemiro have struggled to deliver consistent performances.

While United intend to chase a top-tier midfielder next summer such as Brighton’s Carlos Baleba or Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, they are also committed to a second approach: investing in raw, high-upside youngsters.

Over the past year, the club have expanded their scouting beyond Europe, bringing in developing prospects such as Sekou Kone and Diego Leon

Now, they are set to add another exciting young talent to that project for next summer in Columbian midfielder Cristian Orozco.

Romano reveals why United are ‘very happy’ about transfer

Orozco has been spotted in Manchester in recent weeks and Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest details around the teenager’s move to Old Trafford.

The Italian reporter has explained that the Reds are hoping that Orozco can have a similar trajectory to Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is now considered one of the best midfielders in the world.

“A young talent is coming and Man United hope he can be the new Caicedo… this deal is about potential, it’s about developing this boy but his name is Cristian Orozco,” Romano stated.

“A Columbian midfielder coming from South America. The boy is in Manchester to complete his move to Man United, it’s going to be valid from summer 2026 when he turns 18 years old.

“Man United really believe they have found a hidden gem with Orozco and believe this boy has really good skills. It will be about developing him and seeing how he improves in the next years.

“But for sure Man United are very happy about Orozco.”

Amorim needs to show clear pathway

United have made some good moves for youngsters in the last couple of years and it seems like Orozco only follows that trend.

It is important for there to be a clear pathway for these talents if they are good enough, and that is something that Ruben Amorim is struggling to make right now.

He was known for bringing through youth at Sporting and hopefully that will be the case at Old Trafford once things stabilise more on the pitch.

There are plenty of exciting talents at United right now and they could help solve several problems in the first-team squad, rather than spending loads of money on inconsistent squad players.
