Amid speculation of a potential January move, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester United’s ‘focused’ Joshua Zirkzee.
After a ginormous summer clear-out, Manchester United were left with a completely revamped forward department, with Joshua Zirkzee being one of the few survivors.
Ruben Amorim’s attacking overhaul led to the departures of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony, whilst those who couldn’t leave permanently decided to leave on season-long loans.
The Reds’ attacking replacements have been in fine form since they arrived at Old Trafford, which has seen United climb up the Premier League table into eighth place.
Despite the recent success of the club, there are still a couple of questions surrounding the future of both Kobbie Mainoo and Zirkzee. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the latter.
Zirkzee ‘still focused’
On his Here We Go YouTube podcast, the transfer expert provided some updates regarding the situation of United’s Dutch striker.
“I think it’s a similar situation to Kobbie Mainoo,” Romano said, “Zirkzee, in this case, has still not presented an official request to Man United to go on loan. He’s still focused on Man United.
“Zirkzee is behaving as a top professional, similar to Kobbie Mainoo, so they are very happy with his attitude, and Amorim would be happy to keep the player.
“The player wants to be a regular starter, so there is some interest also in this case. West Ham are looking for a striker, and Zirkzee is on their shortlist.
“Roma in Italy, Roma are one of the clubs calling for the situation of Joshua Zirkzee. So, keep an eye on Zirkzee also for January. Similar to Kobbie Mainoo, it depends on what Man United decide to do.”
United to be left short?
With January fast approaching, the new year could provide United with a difficult situation that they will need to carefully navigate to not be left short of depth.
As things stand, the Reds have two senior options for all three of their attacking positions, although, if Zirkzee is to depart, the first few weeks of the new year may be testing.

From the middle of December until the middle of January, both Bryan Mbeumo and Amad will leave United to head to the Africa Cup of Nations to play for their countries, leaving United short of two attacking options.
If Amorim and his side can navigate this situation successfully, then there will be nothing to worry about, but they will need to be careful with Zirkzee so that they can keep some much-needed depth.
