Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford provided two assists off the bench for Aston Villa in their 2-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday night.

Shortly after Manchester United fought back to salvage a 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park, Marcus Rashford was preparing to face Chelsea with Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old forward was allowed to depart Old Trafford on loan during the January transfer window despite Ruben Amorim’s side being thin up front.

Rashford started his time at Villa with two positive cameos off the bench before he started against Liverpool last week.

Some criticised the wide-forward for lacking defensive work in the build-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal on that night but he has since bounced back with a stunning cameo.

Rashford started on the bench against Chelsea and saw his team 1-0 down at the break. Unai Emery introduced the United loanee at half-time and he made an instant impact.

After making a good run in behind, Rashford played the ball across for Marco Asensio to tap in the equaliser with 57 minutes on the clock.

That exact pair managed to link up once again in the dying stages of the game. Just before the 90th minute, Rashford squared the ball to the Spaniard for a second time to secure the win for Villa.

What Rashford told Asensio during Villa win

Rashford has had some decent displays so far on loan but this was the first time he managed to secure victory for his side with some of the brilliant attacking play we’ve seen previously at Old Trafford.

Although, many fans would have been holding their breath after the equaliser as the goal was initially ruled out for offside.

Rashford looked confused with the decision and TV replays showed that he was right to feel that way – with Enzo Fernandez clearly playing him onside and VAR overturned the decision.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Asensio said: “I looked to Marcus and he told me that he was not offside. I trust him. He told me that it was not offside.”

Asensio also joined the Villains on loan in January and he went onto praise his new teammate, who delivered both of his goals on a silver platter.

“We know all the qualities of Marcus. He helps us a lot and thank you also to him for the two assists,” he added.

United fans won’t want to read Rashford stat

United fans had split opinions on Rashford before he departed the club on loan, and that hasn’t changed in the last month.

Many supporters are still looking to see him succeed and still have slim hope that he could return to the club and not leave permanently in the summer window. Others are not interested in a player they believe to have given up on his boyhood club.

However, for any United supporter right now, seeing him grab two assists for another club, while United are struggling to find any consistency in the final third, is not the best feeling.

In fact, both of Rashford’s assists on Saturday night were considered as ‘Big Chances’ – the 28-year-old now has eight big chances created in the Premier League this season.

Bruno Fernandes is the only United player with more (11) while Amad is the closest other United player (5) to the loanee.

Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee both have four each, while Alejandro Garnacho and Diogo Dalot are sitting with three big chances created in the season so far.

United are lacking any sort of quality in the final third right now and there’s no denying that an in-form Rashford would have helped with that. Instead, he’s getting points on the board for Villa in the Champions League pursuit.
