Ruben Amorim has delivered an important clarification over a potential Manchester United injury after the Reds won against Brighton.
Manchester United made it three Premier League victories in a row with a thrilling 4–2 win over Brighton at Old Trafford.
Returning home after last week’s impressive triumph at Anfield, the Reds carried their momentum into this weekend’s clash and quickly took control of proceedings.
Matheus Cunha broke the deadlock midway through the first half, calmly slotting in his first goal for the club since his summer arrival. Moments later, Casemiro doubled United’s advantage when his deflected shot wrong-footed Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
In the second half, Bryan Mbeumo finished off a flowing team move to make it 3–0, but former United forward Danny Welbeck pulled one back for the visitors with a well-taken free-kick.
Brighton struck again late on to apply pressure, yet Mbeumo sealed the result in the dying moments with his second goal of the game.
United slip vs Brighton after substitutions
While it was another good performance and victory for the Reds, there were some worrying signs later in the second half after Amorim made some changes.
Ayden Heaven did a good job when he came on and even assisted the fourth goal of the game but he didn’t seem to be as intense in the press as Luke Shaw was beforehand.
Shaw has struggled for fitness at Old Trafford over his career but the Englishman has started all nine of United’s Premier League games this season.
The 30-year-old even registered an assist against Brighton and was crucial through his aggressive approach off the ball. There were some concerns when he was substituted after 65 minutes, however, especially due to his injury history at the club.
Amorim provides Shaw injury clarification
Fortunately, after the game, Amorim confirmed that Shaw did not come off because he was injured but instead due to the fact that the defender had been ill leading up to this game.
“Luke is fine. He had the virus during the week. He struggled a little bit in the first half but he’s fine,” the United boss clarified in his post-match press conference.

Even though Shaw is not the perfect player, his profile suits the wide centre-back role perfectly and Amorim clearly trusts him a lot.
Heaven is a brilliant understudy and when Lisandro Martínez returns to fitness, there will be some healthy competition on that left side of defence.
