“He looked anxious…” Gary Neville makes alarming claim regarding key Manchester United summer signing

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has made a worrying claim regarding one of the club’s latest summer recruits, with him questioning their ‘wild’ finishing.

Manchester United spent in the region of £200million during the summer transfer window to reinforce what was a struggling frontline.

The Reds brought in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško to try and put their goalscoring woes behind them, and so far, it has worked.

Ruben Amorim’s side currently sit joint-second in the Premier League scoring charts with 30 in their 16 games, only behind their bitter rivals Manchester City.

Despite this improvement in front of goal, Gary Neville is still questioning one of these summer signings, and has described their finishing ability as ‘wild’.

Neville makes ‘wild’ claim

When speaking on The Overlap following United’s 4-4 draw with AFC Bournemouth, via Football365, the former English right-back spoke on Mbeumo’s ‘rash’ finishing.

Neville said, “It sounds crazy, but I was thinking about Mbeumo, Cunha and [Mason] Mount during the last game. I think that’s actually a pretty good front-three; you wouldn’t like to play against them.

“But none of them are really good finishers. Mbeumo had a really challenging time on Monday night and generally his finishing is quite wild, it’s rash.”

Agreeing with Neville, Arsenal legend Ian Wright added, “It’s wild, yeah. It’s the kind of finishing that suggests he’s anxious, but he doesn’t need to be. He looked anxious and rash to me.

“I don’t know if that’s because of the pressure he’s under but it’s a massive sign of a lack of confidence so he probably needs an easy chance right now.”

United’s wounded right-side

Despite being the current top scorer for the Reds in the league this season with six goals, Mbeumo has spurned his fair share of chances and has looked short of confidence lately.

The Cameroonian has now headed to Morocco for the Africa Cup of Nations, where he will represent his country, and hopefully, rediscover his form in front of goal.

Whilst Mbeumo is representing his nation, United will have to do without their forward for up to seven games. This also applies to the Ivorian Amad Diallo and the Moroccan Noussair Mazraoui.

There is every chance that the United trio will be a big miss to their side over the next month, although Amorim will be hopeful that he can find a successful solution to his conundrum.
