“He just told me…” Chido Obi reveals Rúben Amorim’s 8-word message as soon as he joined Manchester United training

Chido Obi has opened up on a seven-word message Rúben Amorim said to him as soon as he joined Manchester United’s first-team training sessions.

Chido Obi is one of the most exciting young players across English football, with the 17-year-old Dane touted to become a future world-beater.

Obi signed for Manchester United from Arsenal as a 16-year-old late last year in what was a controversial and highly covered transfer considering the talent of the young star, and put pen to paper on his first professional contract once he turned 17.

The young star made his debut for United during a 1-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year and has since accumulated four appearances under Rúben Amorim.

Many are hoping that Obi will be handed his first professional start in the next four weeks as Amorim prepares his side for the final few fixtures of the Premier League and Europa League campaign.

What Amorim said to Obi in training

While Obi made his debut in February, he had been training with the first team for weeks prior to his inclusion against Spurs.

He has impressed many, with United defender Leny Yoro namedropping Obi as a player with the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world in the future.

Speaking in a new interview with club media, Obi has explained that when he first joined United’s first-team training sessions, Amorim gave him the simple message to ‘be humble and keep working every day’ in order to succeed at United.

When asked what Amorim has said to him so far, Obi replied, “He just told me to be humble and keep working hard every day, and yeah, hopefully I’ll get more opportunities soon.”

Obi set for more involvement this season

With first-team striker Joshua Zirkee ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring injury, Amorim recently admitted that Obi is set to become more involved in Premier League fixtures before the end of the campaign.

“Chido, when he played, he played quite well,” Amorim said last week. “It is a difficult moment, it is not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it, then we will do it.”

The same also applies to Harry Amass, the young left-back who recently made his second start for the club during the 1-0 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

Both he and Tyler Fredricson, who was making his debut during the fixture, impressed fans with their composed and collected performances at Old Trafford, with both players set to continue on their paths to regular first-team action.
