“He is happier now…” – Ruben Amorim praises Manchester United star who ‘suffered’ under Erik ten Hag

Ruben Amorim has praised one of his Manchester United players who previously ‘suffered’ under ex-manager Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United are now unbeaten in four matches, a run that includes wins over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton.

Last weekend, the Reds had to settle for a 2-2 draw away at Nottingham Forest, with Amad and Casemiro getting on the scoresheet for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Next up is another away trip, this time to North London, where they’ll face Tottenham Hotspur in another important clash.

United have shown growing potency in attack in recent weeks, with several players finding their rhythm after sluggish starts to the season.

Amad produced a moment of brilliance to draw United level against Forest and was inches away from snatching a late winner at the City Ground. After facing criticism early in the campaign, the Ivorian has looked revitalised of late, thriving in his new role as a right wing-back.

Amad has become a key member of Amorim’s squad since the Portuguese boss’ arrival but he struggled for consistent game-time under previous manager Erik ten Hag.

After a successful loan spell at Sunderland, Amad had to fight for a spot against Antony on the right side of attack, and Ten Hag trusted the Brazilian.

Despite those difficult moments for the Ivorian, Amorim believes they have helped him become a stronger player, but he still wants to see improvements from the 23-year-old.

“He has played many years, it is a good thing that he has suffered a lot to reach this level and that is something important, that has built the character that he has,” Amorim told club media.

“He talks more, he is happier now, and this is a very important player for us, but again, I think he can do so much better.”

Why Amad’s form is improving

Amad’s improved form in recent weeks is partly down to him building a positive relationship with Bryan Mbeumo on the right flank.

The two players are both naturally right wingers and we saw in the early weeks of the season how they could sometimes occupy each others spaces.

But they are learning to play with one and other which is leading to them thriving against opposition defences. When Mbeumo comes wide, Amad will move inside. They change positions regularly and it keeps the other team on their toes.

Mbeumo won the Premier League Player of the Month for his contribution in October and Amad will be hoping that he can keep making an impact alongside the Cameroon international at Old Trafford.
