A Newcastle and Premier League star has recently shared that his inspiration was a current Manchester United midfielder
As the international break comes to an end, Manchester United are set to resume their season on Monday, 24th November, against Everton.
Despite a mixed start to the season, Ruben Amorim’s side is currently five games unbeaten, and he will be hoping that they can continue their rich vein of form against the Merseyside outfit.
While there are still ways to improve it, United’s midfield has shown a level of fight and tactical understanding that was missing for the entirety of last season.
One such player has shown a clear resurgence for the team. From media ridicule and out of the side, to an essential part of the eleven.
Bruno Guimarães admires Casemiro
Casemiro, both on and off the pitch, has been integral for United ever since he arrived in 2022. Yet, under Amorim, his role has seemed to be elevated.
From sharing his insights with the youth players to turning up in big moments with clutch goals and tackles to save United, he has returned to some of his best form.
His good form for United this season saw him return to the Seleção, and he has since struck up a good partnership with Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães.
Speaking to Globo.com, Guimarães said: “His background, his titles… he is a complete player. His career speaks for itself.
“In one of my first interviews with the national team, in 2020, when I arrived, they asked if I was inspired by anyone in midfield, and I said his name, Casemiro.
“He’s also an idol there for everything he’s done, especially at Real Madrid, the five Champions League titles.
“A guy that everyone who plays in Brazilian midfield talks about, Casemiro is the guy we have to follow. So I think it’s a bit of everything, he’s a leader.”
United still need midfield reinforcements
Casemiro has undoubtedly proven critics wrong so far this season. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and no agreement on an extension, United need to plan for his possible departure.
However, as Guimarães mentions, Casemiro remains a leader and a strong figure across Brazilian and world football. In a young and emerging squad, the Newcastle star’s words prove that it’s invaluable to have a player like Casemiro around, suggesting the club should keep him on if possible.
Links to Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba have begun to heat up as we approach the winter transfer window, but they seem like they will be potential big-money signings for the summer window instead.
Regardless of whether Casemiro stays beyond this season, United still need midfield reinforcements for now, too, as they run the risk of running the Brazilian and Bruno Fernandes into the ground.
A move for Wolves and Brazil international Joao Gomes could be a shrewd deal if United can pull it off for under £45 million. Not only a midfielder with Premier League experience, but he is also another player who has been likened to Casemiro and looked up to him as an idol.
At that price, it feels like a no-brainer, on top of signing the big stars in the summer.
