“Hasn’t done enough…” Ex-Man Utd star deals brutal blow to André Onana, hands Rúben Amorim “world’s best” replacement

Ex-Manchester United star handed Ruben Amorim the perfect solution to his goalkeeping problem, whilst dealing a brutal admission to Andre Onana in the process.

Since signing for Manchester United in 2023, Andre Onana has struggled to fill his side with confidence, and after two seasons, it already looks like his time as a Red could be over.

The Cameroon international’s last fixture for the Red Devils was in their 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, which was Onana’s third European final defeat.

After finishing 15th in the Premier League, a huge personnel shake-up is already underway for Ruben Amorim’s side, with the goalkeeping spot seemingly due for change.

Many have questioned whether Onana needs replacing for the upcoming campaign, but ex-United star Ben Foster has weighed in with his opinion on the topic.

Foster claims Onana ‘hasn’t done enough’

When speaking with talkSPORT about Onana, Foster said, “It’s a brutal league, the Premier League, and I kind of think [over] the last two seasons that he hasn’t done enough to prove that he is a Manchester United number one.

“I think he’s got ability, and like so many other Man United players, he’d go elsewhere and probably flourish. I think that’s probably going to be the case with him as well. If the opportunity does come to sign somebody like Emi Martinez, they’ve got to go for it. He’s still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“A lot of people said this season, probably not up to the standard of the previous two years, but still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“You’ve got to have a strong spine in any football team. If you get the goalie right, you get a couple of strikers in, Bruno’s going to be staying now. It’s a great start to the transfer window for them.”

Will Martinez be Amorim’s man?

Recent figures have been released demonstrating Aston Villa’s Financial Fair Play dilemma, which may force the Villains’ hands to sell some of their most valuable assets.

In United’s corner, they will have to be careful with what signings they make, having already acquired the £62.5 million-rated Matheus Cunha, and now looking likely to sign Bryan Mbeumo.

That being said, Martinez could be a smart signing, given that the 32-year-old won’t fetch a hefty fee, and he has already proven his ability on the biggest of stages.

With departures for Onana and Martinez seeming certainly possible, it will be interesting to see where the two shot-stoppers could end up, and who United choose to take up their number one spot.
