Harry Maguire’s stance on a potential exit from Manchester United this summer has been revealed following Matthijs de Ligt’s move to Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Harry Maguire‘s time at Manchester United has been barraged with criticism ever since his £80 million move from Leicester City in 2019.

Maguire signed for Ole Gunnar Solskjær‘s side as part of a world-record deal for a defender and was granted the captain’s armband just five months later after Ashley Young left the club for Inter Milan.

However, his performances were inconsistent, and he was often made a scapegoat for poor defensive displays from the side as a whole. Following Erik ten Hag’s arrival, his game time was limited, and the armband was stripped from him and handed to Bruno Fernandes.

Maguire was afforded many starts last season due to a plethora of injuries at the club, but he himself also spent two months on the sidelines and was close to a West Ham move last summer.

In 2024, the club signed new centre-backs Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro. Both players are expected to be above Maguire in the pecking order at Old Trafford, and some have speculated whether he may choose to find a new side before the end of the summer transfer window.

However, according to HITC, Maguire has no interest in leaving the squad as Ten Hag embarks on his third season in charge at the club.

The report explains that Maguire believes he can still be an important asset to the team despite the incomings of Yoro and De Ligt.

After signing a five-year deal at the club, De Ligt explained that he was impressed with the project the club laid out for him and how they saw him fit into the team.

“As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity for a new challenge at such an historic club,” he said.

“In the conversations that followed, I was impressed by the vision that the football leadership set out and the role they saw for me in it.

“Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me, and I cannot wait to work with him again. I know what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and I’m determined to continue that record at this special club.”
