Harry Maguire issues honest thoughts on Rúben Amorim amid “positive” contract update
Harry Maguire has issued his thoughts on Rúben Amorim following their win over Man City, also explaining the latest on his Manchester United contract talks.
Harry Maguire was able to play 90 minutes for the first time since the end of September as Manchester United beat cross-town rivals Manchester City in an emphatic 2-1 Premier League win away from home.
While City took the lead though Joško Gvardiol’s towering header, two moments of second-half brilliance from Amad Diallo secured all three points for Rúben Amorim on the night.

Latching on to a poor pass from Matheus Nunes, Amad won a penalty through shielding the ball from the Brazilian, which club captain Bruno Fernandes duly dispatched with less than five minutes of regulation time to play.
Then, when all thought the tie was heading for a 1-1 draw, a stunning pass from Lisandro Martínez saw the Ivorian winger through on goal, where he lifted the ball over goalkeeper Ederson and secured three points with a tight-angled finish at the Etihad Stadium.
Maguire’s thoughts on Amorim
Speaking to reporters after the game, Maguire was open and honest on his thoughts about Amorim following the head coach’s first month in the job.
“I think you can see we have a good structure, a good style of play, the way that he wants us to work,” Maguire said.
“He is tactically very good. He’s proven that he’s a winner. We’re still pretty new. I think he’s been here a month now or so, and we’re really looking forward to where we can go and where we can take this club, and I’m sure he’ll take it in a positive way.
“Obviously, we had back-to-back defeats in the Premier League [against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest] so to come to City and to put a statement down is really important for our confidence and the belief of where we’re going and where Ruben’s going to take us.”
A positive contract update
Maguire was also asked for an update on his contract situation. The 31-year-old is entering the final six months of his current deal, although the club hold an option to extend it for another year should they wish.
“I haven’t really thought about it. I’ve still got this year to go with an option in their hands,” said the defender.
“But all the signs are positive at the moment, and the chat that I’m having is really positive.”
