Harry Maguire gives Erik ten Hag advice about Manchester United sack pressure
Harry Maguire has given advice to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as he faces pressure of potentially being sacked from his position.
Maguire, 31, saved United’s blushes on Thursday night as he scored a last-minute equaliser against FC Porto following a dreadful display.
The Reds managed to get 2-0 up after some brilliant work from Marcus Rashford and some questionable goalkeeping from Diogo Costa.
However, Erik ten Hag’s side were disjoined and continuously exposed by Porto’s attack, which saw them leak three goals before the 47th minute.
There were no ideas in the final third before Maguire came up clutch in the final moments but the draw will do no good for Ten Hag in his aims to convince the club’s board to keep him in charge.
It once again feels like he travels to Aston Villa this weekend is a must-win for the Dutch manager but Maguire suggests that the 54-year-old should see this kind of pressure as a “privilege” of representing the club.
You couldn’t really ask a better person about the scrutiny of being at United and Maguire believes that Ten Hag has to deal with the current pressure.
Asked whether the squad still believes in Ten Hag, Maguire told TNT Sports: “I think I’ve played for this club for six years and I know how it works.
“When you go through a bad spell, players come under pressure and the manager does. He’s experienced enough, been in the game and at this club long enough to learn how to deal with it.
“It’s part and parcel of playing and managing for this club. It’s part of the privilege you have.”
