Harry Kane explained why Manchester United legend is his hero as Ruben Amorim considering 2026 transfer move

Harry Kane has previously spoken about how a Manchester United legend is one of his heroes while the Reds are considering making a move for the striker next year.

Manchester United were keen to bring in Harry Kane once it became clear he would be leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023.

However, with negotiations proving difficult under Daniel Levy, the club turned their attention elsewhere and signed Rasmus Højlund, who is now spending the 2025/26 season on loan at Napoli.

This summer, United secured the signing of Benjamin Šeško, though questions remain over whether he can truly carry the responsibility of being the team’s leading striker.

Meanwhile, Kane has thrived in Germany, scoring an incredible 98 goals in 103 matches for Bayern Munich over the past two seasons.

Kane explained why United legend is his hero

Recent reports claim that United could be interested in Kane when the 2026 summer transfer window comes around even though Ruben Amorim’s side signed Šeško last month.

Kane is said to be eager to return to the Premier League so that he can continue his attempts to overtake Alan Shearer as the League’s top goalscorer.

The 32-year-old also has a relationship with United. He worked alongside Wayne Rooney at international level and eventually overtook the club legend as the Three Lions’ all-time top scorer.

Kane has also made it clear that David Beckham was his hero growing up. “I used to look up to players like David Beckham”, Kane told BBC Sport last year.

“Now I’m in that situation – there are a lot of young boys and girls looking up to me. Looking at what I do, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well. You listen to your role models. I would have done anything Beckham said when I was a kid.”

Kane always felt like a United signing

The likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have mentioned how they fell in love with United’s last great side, which had the likes of Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo involved.

But Kane is slightly older and would have remembered watching the likes of Beckham at Old Trafford, even though much of his admiration for the legendary no.7 likely came in an England shirt.

When the 32-year-old first broke onto the scene at Tottenham Hotspur, he felt like the kind of player Sir Alex Ferguson would have pinched. United were unable to do that.

They will hope to be in the position next summer where they can convince Kane that he could be the catalyst to United winning major trophies once again. Despite his age, as he has shown in the Bundesliga, he isn’t slowing down.
