Harry Amass’ stance on Manchester United future clear after Diego Leon makes ‘kill it’ claim

Harry Amass’ stance on his future at Manchester United next season has been made clear after Diego Leon made a strong claim about his own plans.

Manchester United saw several youth players come through into Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad last season and Harry Amass was one of those.

Amass, 18, impressed on the pre-season tour last summer under Erik ten Hag but did not get any opportunities under the Dutchman before his sacking.

Amorim then took his time to assess the defender before offering him his first-team debut against Leicester City on his 18th birthday back in March.

The technically strong starlet made a further six appearances before the end of the season and now wants to prepare for the next campaign.

Leon makes strong claim ahead of United move

United currently have Patrick Dorgu as their first-choice option on the left flank and Amass seems to be staking a claim as his backup.

But the club are also set to finally sign Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño this week, with the Paraguayan defender spotted travelling to Manchester on Tuesday afternoon.

Leon has been rumoured with a potential loan move next season but the 18-year-old has made a strong statement when speaking to the media ahead of his official signing.

In an interview with Universo 970 AM, the teenager said: “Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but I don’t have that mentality… I’m going to kill it in pre-season, and in one or two games I’ll be playing with them.”

For such a young talent, Leon clearly has a lot of self belief and if he does manage to convince United chiefs to keep him in the building next season, there may be some question marks over Amass.

Amass’ stance for next season at United

Amass’ stance ahead of next term is clear. He is planning to fight for a place in Amorim’s squad regardless of what happens with Leon.

A recent report from MailSport claimed that the England youth international is ‘determined’ to stay at the club next term and battle for a spot on the left side with Dorgu.

Meetings are set to take place with a variety of youngsters about their future this summer, but Amass turned down loan moves in January to stay at Old Trafford and the same looks like it will happen this summer.

It is good for United to have two young talents ready to battle for the same position. For Leon, even if he stays at the club next term, he can start proving himself with the Under-21s before attempting to challenge Amass and Dorgu on the left flank in Amorim’s team.
