“Great quality…” – Ruben Amorim explains why he needs to ‘protect’ one Manchester United star after Wolves win

Ruben Amorim has explained that he has to ‘protect’ one of his Manchester United players after a solid display against Wolves.

Manchester United cruised to a 4-1 victory over Wolves in their Premier League meeting, with goals from Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount sealing the result.

United took control early, dominating possession while Wolves looked very much like a side still searching for their first league win of the season.

The opening goal wasn’t the most stylish, but Fernandes reacted well to finish and put United ahead. However, despite facing one of the league’s poorest-performing teams, United still allowed Wolves back into the game with a sloppy equaliser just before the break.

In the second half, the visitors were far more composed, and additional goals from Fernandes, Mbeumo and Mount ensured a comfortable and deserved three points.

Amorim explains why he needs to ‘protect’ one United star

Mount has now scored three goals in his last four starts for United and it seems like we are finally seeing the best of him after a difficult period with injuries.

Ruben Amorim is clearly a big fan of the midfielder and the manager stated that he has ‘great quality’ after he netted against Wolves.

But the United boss has also explained that he needs to be protected due to his injury issues, and that he is going through a similar process that Luke Shaw did.

“He has a great quality, he can defend and attack, the quality when he touches the ball is really good and it is not a surprise to me,” Amorim told reporters of Mount.

“But of course we need to take care of him sometimes, sometimes you need to protect him in training and in games, but when you build it that is going to happen.

“It was the same thing with Luke Shaw, so he is going to build that and he is going to be really important for our club.”

Amorim has improved United’s physicality

Amorim has a lot of critics at the moment and a victory over an extremely poor Wolves side will not change that.

But one thing is undeniable: Amorim has improved the physical levels of the United squad and helped some players with their long-term injuries.

Shaw has started every Premier League game so far this season and looks strong physically, and it looks like Mount is on the same path.

United fans were unconvinced by the midfielder due to his stop-start career at Old Trafford but he is now starting to show some real quality.
