“Great leader…” – Tyler Fredricson reveals key advice from Harry Maguire before Manchester United debut

Young Manchester United breakthrough defender Tyler Fredricson had some kind words for Harry Maguire, as he revealed what advice the experienced defender had given him ahead of his debut.

Due to a very injury plagued campaign for Manchester United, Ruben Amorim has had to turn to his academy players more often than he’d have first thought in order to see out the season.

This has seen the likes of Harry Amass, Chido Obi and the aforementioned Tyler Fredricson all enter the frame in recent weeks for Amorim’s side.

Fredricson recently made his debut for the Red Devils in a 1-0 loss against Wolves, and despite the dull defeat, he impressed as he kept United target Matheus Cunha quiet.

The 20-year-old has managed to keep his place in the squad since his debut with further appearances against Brentford, Athletic Bilbao, and Bournemouth.

Fredricson heaps praise on Maguire

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Fredricson and Amass both reacted to their debuts, but were also asked on who they most look up to in the dressing room.

Fredricson responded: “All the lads are great, but I think in my area of the pitch, like Harry Maguire is a great leader and a great example for me.”

The 20-year-old stated that Maguire had given him a lot of advice such as helping him keep calm ahead of his debut against Wolves last month.

“Before my debut he was helping me keep calm and just saying, keep it simple at the start of the game, build yourself into the game, and then you’ll be fine, and then just play your own game,” he added.

Maguire setting an example at United

After a difficult few years as a United player, that saw him fall out of favour both for club and country, whilst also losing captaincy, Maguire has done a great job of coming back into the picture.

The 32-year-old has stepped up in the latter stages of the season, recently scoring the winner to send his side to the Europa League semi-finals, whilst also showing great leadership to the youngsters.

Maguire has recently been included in the list of names that are classed as ‘unsellable‘ this summer as Amorim views him as a leader that can offer a great deal in his dressing room.

With next season sure to see many new faces at United, it will be interesting to see what roles Fredricson and Maguire have to play for Amorim’s side, who will be desperate for improvement.
