Gary Neville names TEN Manchester United players that can secure Rúben Amorim European football next season

Gary Neville believes there are ten Manchester United players in the current squad who can help Rúben Amorim qualify for European football next season.

Manchester United earned a sensational 2-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, as Rúben Amorim’s side grabbed a massive three points at Anfield.

United burst into life straight away, taking the lead inside two minutes when Bryan Mbeumo finished neatly from a tight angle after a clever pass from Amad. Bruno Fernandes later spurned a big chance to double the advantage, but Amorim’s men remained in control going into half-time.

Liverpool came out with intent after the break, and Cody Gakpo struck the post early on as the hosts ramped up the pressure. Just before the hour, Amorim made changes, bringing on Manuel Ugarte, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, and Benjamin Šeško to re-energise his side.

Gakpo eventually found the equaliser with a little over ten minutes to play, but United responded almost immediately as Harry Maguire powered in a header to restore the lead.

Despite Liverpool’s relentless late push, United’s defence stood tall to secure their first victory at Anfield since January 2016.

Win vs Liverpool can be a springboard for Amorim

The result against Liverpool also means that, for the first time since Amorim took charge at Old Trafford, the club have secured back-to-back Premier League wins, which has been a thorn in the club’s side across the last 12 months.

Speaking on his podcast after the full-time whistle, former United captain Gary Neville has used the victory at Anfield to look toward the coming fixtures.

“They’ve just gone into the top half of the table, to ninth, and I think if they win next week, they’ve got to start thinking of pushing up the league,” he said.

“Because they’ve got to get to a point whereby there’s stability at the club, the only way there’s going to be stability is through winning football matches.”

Amorim has the squad to finish in the top six

Further, Neville went on to speak about the goals United should be setting for the rest of the season.

Amorim spoke last Friday and admitted that the club’s official goal is to head back into European football. Neville believes there are ten players in the current squad who will be crucial in securing a top-six finish in the Premier League.

“I think Manchester United have got a top-six squad, particularly when you know that they haven’t got European football, and they haven’t got the Carabao Cup now,” he continued.

“If you look at the four or five players they’ve got up front in Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, Amad Diallo, and Bryan Mbeumo, Mason Mount, and Bruno Fernandes behind them.

“And then the centre-backs they’ve got – Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, they should be able to get a top-six finish with the free weeks out of that squad.”
