Gary Neville slams Manchester United player that club stated they ‘will not’ sign this summer
Manchester United are looking to offload several players this summer to secure funding for transfer inflows, with multiple stars linked with moves away.
INEOS are looking to plug holes across varying positions in Manchester United‘s squad this summer, with the club having been linked to centre-backs, midfielders, and forwards across the transfer window so far.
Erik ten Hag signed two new goalkeepers last summer, bringing in André Onana and Altay Bayındır as the club’s new first-choice and deputy for the position, although the latter’s future has been subject to debate of late.

Bayındır has only played once for United since signing a five-year contract against Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round, but he started on Saturday afternoon as Turkey faced Portugal in their second 2024 European Championships tie.
Bruno Fernandes’ Portugal team ran out as 3-0 victors, with Turkey scoring a rather bizarre own goal for the side’s second of the night. In the 28th minute, Samet Akaydin chose to pass back to Bayındır but incorrectly judged the goalkeeper’s position on the pitch, instead passing straight into his own goal.
However, Gary Neville, former United captain, feels that Bayındır must take his fair share of the blame for not staying where he was meant to.
“The defender doesn’t look where the goalkeeper is, and I have to say, when a goalkeeper converges when there’s not a lot of space between the ball and the defender, it very rarely ends well,” Neville explained on ITV following the result.
“It’s a poor cocktail, and I have to say, the goalkeeper really should stay where he is.”
A lot of speculation has surrounded Bayındır’s future, with the 26-year-old being routinely linked with a move back to his native country. However, one Super Lig side, Trabzonspor, have confirmed they have no intention of signing him.
Releasing a statement last month, Trabzonspor announced that despite reports in Turkey implying that an agreement had been met between United and the Turkish side, such speculation is categorically false.
“The news in the national and local press regarding the transfer of professional football player Altay Bayındır to our club does not reflect the truth.
“Our club does not have any [ongoing] work regarding the player in question.”
