Gary Neville has warned Michael Carrick that he will “kill” one Manchester United star if he isn’t handed a start after impressing in recent performances.
Manchester United claimed another win under Michael Carrick as they defeated David Moyes’ Everton in a close 1-0 victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Benjamin Šeško was on the end of a devastating counter attack as fellow summer signings, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo combined handing United the advantage.
Carrick has made limited changes to the starting 11 since his arrival, being forced into two changes due to injury to Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu and Lisandro Martinez.
However, United legend Gary Neville has singled out one player that he believes should be starting in United’s next fixture as they host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
Neville insists on Sesko starting
Slovenian giant Benjamin Šeško has been in elite form since the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, securing six goals in eight games in his debut season as a Red.
The 22-year-old has yet to start under interim boss Michael Carrick, yet has proven to be an integral part of the squad and the difference maker in many games.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, Neville clearly outlined his beliefs for Sesko and how he should be treated.
“His celebration was a message to everybody,” he explained. “It was a message saying ‘get me in this damn team now. This is my start next time’. I think he will have been really disappointed having scored a wonderful goal against West Ham not to be in the team today.
“For Sesko now, I think on Sunday against Crystal Palace, he starts. And I haven’t always been convinced about him this season.
“But what you have to do is move with what you see. United have struggled in the last couple of games against West Ham and Everton.
“He looks like he’s growing in his game and his body and his confidence is high, so I think on Sunday, Michael Carrick starts him. I think it would kill the lad if he didn’t start on Sunday.”

The weight of being a United striker is heavy
Fans have seen through the likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund how much confidence can do to a player, particularly a player leading the line for Man United.
Sesko would be hopeful of a start, and fans may wonder what more he has to do in order to earn a start. Monday night saw Amad substituted before the 60 minute mark as Mbeumo was moved out to the right and United became an entirely different team.
A start for Sesko feels deserved and offers United a bigger presence in the box, occupying defenders and showing elite athleticism.
Another game starting on the bench would also raise the question on why United invested so much money on a striker who continues to be starved of a place in the starting XI.
As of now, fans wait for Sunday where United’s push for Champions League football continues in the Premier League, with Oliver Glasner’s side coming.
