Gary Lineker has tipped Marcus Rashford to be successful in Barcelona, while also making a damning statement regarding Manchester United.
Having been outcast at Manchester United since the arrival of Ruben Amorim, Marcus Rashford has finally completed his dream move to Barcelona.
The Englishman experienced a troubled couple of seasons for the Red Devils, which led to him making a move to fellow Premier League side Aston Villa on loan, where he regained some of his form.
Despite this loan not being made permanent, it was clear that there was no way back for Rashford at United, and he was forced to seek a new suitor, with Matheus Cunha taking his number 10 shirt.
United’s 27-year-old winger made it clear that he favoured a move to Barcelona, and after a couple of months of bargaining, Rashford has got his move.
This deal is yet another loan, but reportedly includes an option to buy Rashford at the end of the season for a reported £30 million.
Lineker backs Rashford as ‘great player’
Amid the news of this transfer being finalised, Gary Lineker has quickly backed the winger to succeed at La Blaugrana next season.
When speaking to Què t’hi jugues, via BarcaBlaugranes, Lineker said, “Barça haven’t had an Englishman in their team for a long time, and it’s a good signing. He’s a great player.
“He’s had his problems at United in recent years; he hasn’t played much, but he has a lot of talent.
“The problem is Manchester United; those who have come out of there have played better elsewhere. He’s very fast, very dangerous, and a good person.”
Lineker’s thoughts on Rashford’s best position
The English pundit continued by saying, “I hope he can show his level. There are a lot of games being played these days and more starters are needed, and Marcus has great quality. I think he’s going to be a great signing for Barça.
“We’ll see, because you never know, but I’m very happy to see him at Barcelona. He’s a good friend of mine.
“His best position is on the left wing, but he can also play as a centre-forward. He’s very quick when he has the ball at his feet. The best position is on the left. Flick’s Barça style of play could suit him very well because he’s very dangerous.”
If anyone knows what it takes to be an Englishman playing for the Catalan giants, it’s Lineker. It will be exciting to see if the 64-year-old is right about Rashford’s move.
