Gary Lineker has agreed with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim regarding the Red Devils ‘perfect’ potential next signing.
Manchester United have made their intent clear this transfer window, having now spent around £230million on new additions to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
Ruben Amorim’s side have brought in the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and recently, Benjamin Sesko in an attempt to eradicate any goalscoring concerns that developed from their last campaign.
Since strengthening their attack so heavily, questions have been raised as to whether there needs to be a level of investment for the rest of the United squad, such as a new midfielder or a goalkeeper.
Not much has developed on the shot-stopper front, but as for a new midfielder, Gary Lineker has spoken highly of a £100 million-rated star who Amorim views as a ‘perfect’ option.
Lineker sings Baleba’s praise
Recent rumours have suggested that United have turned their attention to Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, who could be available for a hefty fee of around £100 million.
When speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said about Baleba: “That would make a difference because he’s got the legs that they need in that kind of area.”
He added, “We don’t know how good Sesko is going to be in the Premier League; he scored 13 [league] goals last season.
“Mid-table? I see mid-table. They need to improve on last season, so I think to get into Europe, and it seems ridiculous saying this about Manchester United, but getting any kind of European football next season would probably be a bonus.”
Amorim agrees with Lineker
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have set their sights on the Cameroonian 21-year-old. Amorim ‘loves’ the midfielder and sees him as ‘perfect’.
With three years left on his contract, the Seagulls are under no pressure to sell their prized asset, and seem to be holding out for a lucrative fee. Despite this, United are in talks with Baleba’s agents.
“Man United, from what I feel, they want to try,” Romano detailed. “They want to try and say: Okay, we believe Baleba is the perfect player.
“We are very happy with our market because Man United signed Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko, players they wanted.”
