Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has been included in FIFA Pro’s World XI alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Kevin de Bruyne.

The Brazilian was voted by his peers for his performances from August 2021 to December 2022. That would include his heroics in the Champions League as Real Madrid won the final against Liverpool at the end of last season, as well as his performances for United which have helped transform the side under Erik ten Hag.

Casemiro most recently carried on his world-class form by scoring in the Carabao Cup final as The Reds ended a five-and-a-half-year trophy drought.

He was one of the standout players when he won his fifth Champions League trophy and also was awarded the Man of the Match award in the Super Cup victory against Eintracht Frankfurt before he moved to Old Trafford.

There were four other Premier League players named in the XI; with Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne, Joao Cancelo and Erling Haaland all being named in the team, as well as Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

Alongside Casemiro and De Bruyne in the midfield was the Brazilian’s ex-teammate Luka Modric, who continues to show his class at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium at 37 years of age.

Thibaut Courtois and Karim Benzema, also former teammates of Casemiro, were also named in the team at either end of the pitch.

World Cup-winning Lionel Messi was also in the frontline, whilst his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe finished off a front four of talented players.

In defence, Cancelo was joined by Achrif Hakimi and Van Dijk – the Liverpool centre-back’s inclusion seems odd considering the considerable drop-off from Jurgen Klopp’s men since the beginning of this season.

The team is set up to operate in a strange 3-3-4 formation, in order to show the firepower of the frontline, of course.
