Fred reveals role he played in Casemiro’s Manchester United move
Fred has explained the role he played in Casemiro’s move to Manchester United last summer.
Fred has been brilliant under Erik ten Hag this season, scoring five goals so far for Manchester United. However, what is most noticeable so far has been his brilliant performances off the bench.
In Manchester United’s last two fixtures against Reading and Nottingham Forest respectively, Fred has both times come off the bench to get himself on the scoresheet during the domestic cup fixtures.
He also assisted Casemiro’s second goal of the night against Reading, and has spoken on how his Brazilian midfield partner came to join Manchester United from Real Madrid.
Casemiro has been a wonderful signing for Ten Hag so far, integrating himself into the United side and the hearts of the Old Trafford faithful, with his impact on the team obvious.
Fred, speaking to Paul Hirst of Times Sport, has explained that prior to joining the club, Casemiro sent Fred a message.
“Casemiro sent me a message last summer saying: ‘Maybe I will come to United’,” explained Fred during a 30-minute interview.
“I know his quality so I messaged him back, saying: ‘You need to come here today, right now!’ I admire him a lot. He’s a world-class player. It’s so important for him to be in our team.”
Casemiro has scored four goals so far for United, and also supplied six assists. Although his role is mainly as the furthest back in a midfield three, his attacking exploits have caught many off-guard, and have added a much-needed extra goal threat to Ten Hag’s squad.
Manchester United recently booked themselves into their first final under Erik ten Hag, defeating Forest 5-0 across two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. They will face Newcastle United at Wembley towards the end of February, with Newcastle United as their opponents.
Casemiro’s track record in finals is superb, showcased by his five Champions League medals with Real Madrid, among a whole host of domestic cup trophies, too.
United will also be facing Barcelona in the Europa League just days before the Carabao Cup final, who are of course familiar opponents for Casemiro. Ten Hag will no doubt be relying on the Brazilian’s experience in elite competitions to help guide his squad through a period of high pressure and tough fixtures.
