Fred has revealed a hilarious WhatsApp exchange with Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes ahead of the Europa League clash.

Manchester United are set to continue their Europa League journey on Thursday evening with a crucial away match against Fenerbahce in the third group stage fixture.

United’s start to the competition has been less than ideal, with two draws against FC Twente and FC Porto putting pressure on Erik ten Hag as questions swirl about his tactics.

Despite their European struggles, United bounced back in the Premier League last weekend, delivering a strong second-half performance to overturn a deficit and defeat Brentford at Old Trafford.

Thursday’s meeting with Fenerbahce will reunite United with former manager Jose Mourinho, now in charge of the Turkish side. Adding to the narrative, ex-United midfielders Fred and Sofyan Amrabat, who both played under Ten Hag, are part of the Fenerbahce squad.

Fred’s text exchange

With plenty of love still between the two new Fenerbahce players and their former colleagues at United, there was bound to be an exchange of messages between the players.

Ahead of the tie, Fred sat down with an interview for the Mail, and has revealed a hilarious but short exchange he had with club captain Bruno Fernandes when the initial draw was made in August.

However, Fernandes is suspended for the tie due to a red card he received against FC Porto.

“I messaged Bruno saying ‘We will kill you,’ and he responded that ‘No, we will kill you’,” Fred told the Mail with a ‘beaming smile’ on his face.

“But then my friend got a red card, so he won’t play with us.”

Fred’s compassion

Further, Fred explained that he is upset to know that his former club are not performing at the level expected of them so far this season.

Aside from the two Europa League draws, they sit 12th in the Premier League with just three wins from their opening eight fixtures in the competition.

‘They are not in the best moment, but I support them,” he said. “I’m upset when they don’t get good results or don’t play well, but against us, it’s different. On Thursday, they can’t play well.”
