Franco Mastantuono has sent a nine-word message to Manchester United after they approached him as Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid battle for his signature.
Manchester United have been trying to fill their squad with some exciting young talent, and Franco Mastantuono was another player they’ve been targeting who fits this criteria.
The River Plate youngster has been impressing in Argentina and is rated as one of the most exciting forward talents in the world in his age group.
However, despite being towards the front of the queue for the 17-year-old before the transfer window opened, Ruben Amorim’s men have opted to focus on experience and guaranteed success during these opening days.
Matheus Cunha has been signed, and Bryan Mbeumo has made it clear that he wants to follow suit. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are battling for the signature of Mastantuono after quickly becoming the frontrunners.
Mastantuono sends nine-word message to United
United would have still been eyeing Mastantuono when moving forward for Cunha and Mbeumo simply because he would be a brilliant market opportunity, similarly to Leny Yoro last summer.
TyCSports have reported that United were one of several clubs to travel to Argentina to visit the player and his representatives several weeks ago.
But the report mentions that Mastantuono’s response was clear. “Sorry, I’m waiting for Real Madrid to call me,” they claim he told the Reds.
PSG appeared to be favourites for the player, but Madrid’s interest has sparked a transfer battle which the La Liga club seem destined to win.
United, meanwhile, will be searching for other young talents to bring in, as INEOS’ clear strategy still revolves around those hidden gems that can be moulded into top players.
United could experiment with midfield signing
With around £120 million already spent, if the Reds manage to get Mbeumo over the line, United could try to be smart in the midfield department.
Many are hoping that someone like Adam Wharton is targeted, but the Crystal Palace star would cost more than either of the two attacking signings.
Wharton was also playing Championship football two years ago. He is now valued at £100 million. Perhaps United should go shopping in England’s second tier.
Hayden Hackney is a highly-rated midfielder for Middlesbrough and could be on the move this summer. Prior reports have suggested that United may go in for the 22-year-old.
United needed proven goal scorers in their team, but we will still see some experimenting this summer. Ayden Heaven is proof that not every signing needs to be for big money as long as the right research is done.
Whether it is Hackney or someone else, this could very well be the position where the Reds sign someone we’re not all fully aware of.
