Former Man United star explains why Old Trafford exit was “best decision in my life”
Former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has explained why his Old Trafford exit was the “best decision” in his life.
Andreas Pereira was a versatile midfielder who joined United’s academy from PSV Eindhoven in 2011 and showcased impressive promise during his early years at the club.
The Brazilian made his first-team debut in 2014 under Louis van Gaal. Despite sporadic bursts of brilliance, including memorable goals and assists, he struggled to find the consistency needed.
Loan spells at Granada, Valencia, and Lazio displayed his potential but also highlighted the challenge of establishing himself at Old Trafford.
Pereira left in the summer of 2022 to join Fulham for a reported £10 million fee, and he has since become one of the Cottagers’ most impressive players.
The 28-year-old has spoken out about his United exit, and he firmly believes it was the best possible decision for him despite his love for the ‘fantastic’ club.
“I think it was the best decision I made in my life,” he said, as per MEN. “To come to live and play here, to enjoy my football, to get back into the national team with great players, to enjoy my football in the Premier League, leaving is the best decision I made.
The time I was there, I really enjoyed being at a fantastic club. But I don’t regret leaving.
“We [the players in my situation] have this desire to show it was wrong that we didn’t play. With everyone’s help around me [at Fulham], I achieved a great season.”
Since joining Fulham, Pereira has played 82 games. The midfielder made 75 appearances for United at Old Trafford.
