A forgotten Manchester United starlet has sent an extremely clear message to new head coach Ruben Amorim this week.

Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim started his work on the grass at Carrington at the beginning of this week.

The 39-year-old had a limited group to work with due to the international break, with only 10 first-team players at the training ground.

Amorim used many youth players in that first session, including 16-year-old duo Jim Thwaites and Godwill Kukonki.

The former Sporting manager has been known to utilise the Academy talent at his disposal and will undoubtably be keen to see who impresses him from the youth teams at Carrington.

Well, Ethan Ennis has already made his mark since Amorim’s arrival after scoring a wonderful hat-trick against National League side Altrincham on Tuesday evening.

Ennis, 19, joined the club from Liverpool in the summer of 2021 and was viewed as one of the most talented young forwards in the country.

However, his development was completely halted after an injury to his cruciate ligament and he only returned to action last season.

After months of being managed with semi-regular game-time, Ennis has finally started being able to play consistent football once again this season in the under-21s.

With many fans eager to learn about the new up-and-coming stars at United, the under-18s often get more attention due to the fact they are available to watch on MUTV more often than the under-21s.

This, and his long-term injury, has led to Ennis’ talent going quite under the radar at Old Trafford. But he managed to get a lot of attention this week.

United’s 4-0 victory over Altrincham was available to watch on MUTV and Amorim would’ve also likely been paying attention to the clash.

Ennis was the clear standout for the under-21s, who dominated the game against the senior side. With two curling goals into the top corner and a cheeky chipped finish to round off the hat-trick, Ennis enjoyed himself on the night.

The youngster can play anywhere across the frontline and also may be an option as a wingback in Amorim’s system. He has scored nine goals and has two assists so far this term.

Further opportunities in training are expected, and if Ennis can continue his fine form, he may be closer to a first-team call-up than many expect.
