Manchester United waltzed past Leicester City with a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford, undoubtedly giving them momentum going into their biggest week of football in years.

A difficult first half was survived, with Marcus Rashford putting United 1-0 up after exploiting Leicester’s high line. David De Gea had made some excellent saves up until that point.

In the second half, Rashford scored once again with a run behind that Leicester line before Jadon Sancho combined with Bruno Fernandes to carve Leicester apart and make it 3-0, his second goal in five appearances since returning.

Here are five things UtdDistrict learnt from the win:

#1: It’s time to give Rashford the World Class tag

The two goals are becoming standard for Rashford, he is scoring week in week out now with 16 goals in his last 17 games. His scoring record is one of the best in Europe this season, and right now he is untouchable.

There was another moment that stuck out in the third goal, where he drove inside with the ball. Usually, he would shoot on sight, but this time he laid it off to Jadon Sancho, who combined with Bruno before an easy tap-in. A huge sign of his improvement.

#2: Jadon Sancho has his mojo back

There was a goal that he crafted before finishing, and there should have been an assist for Fernandes, but most importantly there was this feeling of freedom. Erik ten Hag played Jadon Sancho in the number 10 role once again, and it felt like the shackles were off.

Today’s Jadon Sancho looked like the Jadon Sancho of old, the Jadon Sancho that had the entirety of Europe on high alert at just 19 years old. After all the troubles, Sancho today seemed to rediscover the boy that just loves to play inside him. If he can keep this going, United have a world-beater on their hands.

#3: Final game without Casemiro, and he will be welcomed back

United’s performance was not all perfect today. The first half in midfield was pure chaos, and Leicester walked through like it wasn’t there. It looked like a midfield that existed prior to the best defensive midfielder on the planet walking in.

Casemiro has missed the last three league games through a questionable suspension, and it has highlighted just how important he is to Manchester United. They have managed to pick up two wins, against weaker opposition, but those wins were made to be much harder than they would have been with him. Expect to see a much better United now that he is back.

#4: Bruno Fernandes with a monster creative performance

Bruno Fernandes absolutely took the mickey out of Leicester City’s high line today. Leicester came to Old Trafford playing an aggressive high line without protecting themselves properly in transitions, and Bruno Fernandes was licking his lips at it.

Countless huge opportunities were created by the number eight, showing once again he is an elite creator in transitional situations. He walks away with two assists, and is unfortunate to not have more.

#5: David De Gea with his best performance in a very long time

Watching David De Gea today felt like an alternate reality. His distribution was the best it had been since his early days at the club all through the game, and he was proactive in defending corners. The elite saves he made were the cherry on top.

United need a new goalkeeper, but David De Gea could continue to be a viable option if he plays like this more often, because today was exactly what United fans have wanted from him.
