Five of Manchester United’s players have informed the club that they want to leave this summer as Rúben Amorim makes a decision over their pre-season attendance.
Manchester United have already allocated their initial summer transfer budget to the signing of Matheus Cunha and are deep in negotiations with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, as they push ahead with a significant rebuild of their forward line under Rúben Amorim.
With further additions still needed—most notably a central striker and a midfielder—the club are now under pressure to raise funds through player sales to support the next phase of their recruitment.
United are actively looking to sell Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony, while Rasmus Højlund is also on the market if the right bid comes in.
This aggressive approach to the transfer window highlights Amorim’s determination to reshape the squad ahead of the new season and signals a clear break from the previous regime’s long-term plans.
Five players confirm they want to leave United
With United wanting a mass clearout of Amorim’s club this summer, five players have confirmed to the club that they all wish to leave this summer.
Sancho, Rashford, Garnacho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia have all informed United of their desire to leave this summer.
Sancho is reportedly closing in on a move to Juventus, while his English counterpart, Rashford, is eyeing a move to Barcelona amid their failure to sign Nico Williams.
Garnacho has a reported preference to stay in the Premier League and would like to sign for a London-based club. Although Chelsea have shown interest, there is no indication that a deal is close to completion.
Antony has made it known that he would like to return to Real Betis, while United are struggling to drum up interest in Malacia.
Should United secure sales for all players for their desired fees, they could raise more than £180 million for Amorim to spend this summer on top of Cunha’s arrival and Mbeumo’s likely transfer.
Amorim makes pre-season decision on five players
With the above five players making their wishes to leave clear, Amorim has decided that they will be granted delayed returns to pre-season training. This allows players extra time to work on their moves away from the court.
The above quintet have been informed that they will not need to return to Amorim’s pre-season training sessions until later in July should they not secure moves away before then, but will be given access to medical and rehab facilities during this period.

As for the club’s five pre-season fixtures, the first sees United travel to Sweden to face familiar rivals Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena.
They’ll then fly to the United States for matches against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton, before returning to Old Trafford for a final friendly against Fiorentina, featuring former United goalkeeper David de Gea.
The Premier League have confirmed that United will begin their 2025/26 campaign with a headline clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17 August, kicking off at 16:30 BST.
