Five new shirt numbers expected as Manchester United return to pre-season, including Harry Amass change

There are several new shirt numbers expected at Manchester United when Ruben Amorim’s squad return to action next week.

Manchester United are aiming to bounce back in the upcoming Premier League season after a disappointing campaign last time out.

With pre-season fast approaching under Ruben Amorim, the Reds must leave last season’s setbacks behind and focus on making improvements in the months ahead.

Summer also tends to bring changes to squad numbers, and a few alterations could be on the cards in the coming weeks.

With the Reds set to return to Carrington for pre-season training on Monday morning, UtdDistrict look at five new shirt numbers expected at the club.

New shirt numbers for young talents

In terms of players who were already at the club, Amad is one who could be set for an upgrade after hinting that he will be moving on from the no.16 recently.

The Ivorian could return to his old shirt number – 19 – as many of the favourite numbers are filled by his teammates.

Meanwhile, Chido Obi and Harry Amass could also be set for upgraded shirt numbers after their breakthrough seasons at Old Trafford last term.

Both players are expected to stay at the club next season, rather than going out on loan, and United usually award emerging talents with improved shirt numbers.

Amass currently wears the no.41 but could change to the no.33 while Chido Obi could be in line to receive the vacant no.39. The young striker had the no.56 last term.

Cunha and Leon will don their new numbers

Alongside those three, United fans are also set to see new signings Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon with their new shirt numbers on their training gear.

It has already been confirmed that Cunha will wear the club’s iconic no.10 shirt, with those at Old Trafford letting Marcus Rashford know that he will be stripped of the number ahead of time.

The Brazilian has explained that he admired Wayne Rooney, who also wore that number, and he also had the no.10 while at Wolves.

Leon’s shirt number has not yet been revealed but the Paraguayan talent could take the no.27, which is the next available shirt number after no.19.

He had worn the no.37 at Cerro Porteño but Kobbie Mainoo currently occupies that shirt number and it is not yet known whether he will be swapping numbers for next season.
